The Groninger Museum invited us to join their new exhibition Kinderbiënnale 2021.
This is Netherlands’ first ever Children’s Biennale, a large interactive art exhibition made for and by kids. And takes place at the Groninger Museum from 2 juni through 9 January 2022.
Every artwork in the Children’s Biennale will invite interaction, participation and creation. Through doing, discovering, making and looking, visitors will actively engage with art in a variety of ways.
Our floating ‘Badkat met Guppy’ (Dutch for Bath Cat with little fish Guppy) art installation is part of the Kinderbiennale ‘Summer Neighbourhood Project’ and was a participation project with the areas Korrewegwijk and De Hoogte and organizations Het Pand, het Groenhuis and Mooie Wijken in Groningen. We invited the children in these areas to inspire us, think with us and help us with the ‘new-to-build’ art installation.
Through several workshops and out of all the creative ideas of the children, the floating art installation Badkat and Guppy was born. We build the installation in Rotterdam, but the last part of painting the cat we did with the help of the children in Groningen. The chosen designs that we painted on the Badkat and Guppy were made by Floor and Lotte.
The 3,5 meter floating cat with scuba diving glasses and his fishy friend will be seen on the outside of the Groninger Museum, happy floating in the water, until end of 2022.
