The children playground Sportspeeltuin Hillesluis and the Cultuurscout Feijenoord wanted to bright up the neighbourhood of Hillesluis in Feijenoord, a district in the south of Rotterdam. They commissioned us to make a floating object for in the water of the West-Varkenoordse Park, near the playground. We accepted the challenge and in 7 weeks we built a 4,50 meter high Seal with a little Elephant balancing on her nose.
Together with the childrend of the playground we designed and painted the Seal and her little friend. Through a coloring contest, children were actively involved in the final design.
With the colorful ‘Zeehond op Zuid’ (Seal of the South) we wanted to cheer up the whole neighbourhood and make art more accessible for young and old. The Seal and her little Elephant friend also stands for boundless friendship, playfulness and the city of Rotterdam, especially for the childrend of Rotterdam South.
