Every year the Central Library of Rotterdam organize a big interactive summer exhibition for the youth of Rotterdam, but due to the Covid-19 situation it was not possible. Therefore the Public Libraries of Rotterdam came up with an idea of spreading out a special edition ‘Summer Holiday Newspaper (VakantieDoeKrant)’ to all the children of Rotterdam, full with stories, puzzles and suggestions of fun activities in the city during the summer holiday.

The Public Library gave us the assignment of designing and building fourteen colorful newspaper boxes for their special Summer Holiday Newspapers. Our idea is to design a vivid summer ‘Paper boy/girl’ box, inspired by newspaper vending machine that you sometimes see in American movies, which has something nostalgic ready to give you the latest news.

All the newspaper boxes were spread out in the whole region of Rotterdam, from Hoek van Holland, Nesselande till IJsselmonde. The project was part of the yearly Jeugd Vakantie Paspoort, a special summer program full of kids activities in whole Rotterdam.
